Since your primary care physician no longer has to spend time on the road traveling to and from the hospital and rounding on hospitalized patients, he or she is able to open more clinic hours to care for patients and can focus on preventive and maintenance medicine in his or her office.
Our hospitalists strive for excellent communication with primary care physicians; we work together to ensure that the best possible care is delivered to the patient. Your primary care physician will have full access to all of your medical records from your hospital stay.
Our hospitalist physicians also perform pre-surgical testing on patients who are scheduled to have surgery. This is a convenient service for everyone - the surgeons, our referring primary care physicians, and most importantly, you, the patient.
Our physicians perform a very inclusive evaluation of each patient before they have surgery. If there are any outstanding medical issues that are discovered upon examination, we work with your primary care physician to ensure the medical problem is resolved prior to surgery.
Your Primary Care Physician may want to directly admit you to the hospital from his/her office. When you are directly admitted to the hospital, you may be able to avoid possible delays and costs associated with a visit to the Emergency Department.
If you are directly admitted to North Kansas City Hospital between 9am and 9pm Monday through Friday, you can utilize the valet service to park your car which will allow you to quickly enter the admissions process at the ground floor of the Pavilion.
Not all patients are candidates for a direct admission. Your Primary Care Physician will determine if you are a candidate for direct admission or if you need to be seen in the Emergency Department.
If you need disability forms, return to work forms, FMLA forms, or other similar forms completed, please contact your primary care physician's office and they should be be able to assist you with completing these forms.
If you require pre-authorization for any of your prescriptions or need a refill on any prescription, please contact your primary care physician's office for their assistance. Once you leave the hospital, you should always contact your primary care physician for questions related to your medical care.
